What is an Artesian Well?

An Artesian Well is a natural water source where water rises to the surface under its own pressure from a confined aquifer, known as an artesian aquifer. These aquifers form when water seeps through a permeable, porous rock layer that is trapped between layers of impermeable rock or clay. This creates a pressurised environment that allows water to flow upward when a borehole is drilled or a natural fissure in the rock occurs.

Kingshill Natural Mineral Water maintains exceptionally low nitrate levels, even amidst modern intensive farming practices, due to its location in a wooded area with minimal agricultural activity.

The process by which water enters the top of an aquifer, moves through permeable rock, and reaches the artesian well can take hundreds or even thousands of years. During this time, the water is naturally filtered and acquires its mineral content.
